If you need to regain control of a Facebook Page that belongs to you, whether it was taken by a hacker, revoked by a former employee, or you never had power in the first place, there's a straightforward process to reclaim full administrative rights. By reporting the issue and providing proof of ownership, you can quickly recover the administrator role for your business or organization's official Facebook Page. This guide will walk you through the steps to regain control of your Page.

How do you know if your Facebook page is hacked?

If you can't access your Page, you should first see whether another admin or someone with complete authority over the Page has deleted you. In such circumstances, it's best to contact a Page admin or someone with complete authority over the Page and ask to be reinstated. Because there are distinct Page responsibilities and access levels, only Page admins or persons with complete power may add or delete people.

Signs that your account may have been hacked include
  • Changes to your email or password.

  • Modifications to your name or birthday.

  • Friend requests are sent to unfamiliar people.

  • Messages sent that you didn't write.

  • Posts made that you didn't create.

If your account has been hacked, take immediate steps to secure it. If you suspect that someone else who works on your Page has been hacked, encourage them to seek immediate help through the Accounts security section of the Help Centre.

What are the documents you need to reclaim your Facebook ownership?

  • Valid Government-Issued Photo ID: Prepare a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport. Facebook accepts different types of identification, which can be found in their help center.

  • Signed Statement: Create a signed statement from a person who possesses sufficient knowledge and authority on the matter. The statement should include the following information:

  • Description of Your Relationship to the Page: Clearly explain your relationship to the Page and your authority to request a change from the current Page manager(s), if applicable.

  • Page URL: Provide the URL of the Page you wish to reclaim.

  • Name of Current Page Manager(s): Include the name(s) of the current person(s) managing the Page, if applicable, and their relationship to the Page.

  • Explanation of Your Request: Elaborate on the reason for your request. For instance, if there has been a termination of the working and/or business relationship with the named person(s), explain the circumstances.

  • Supporting Documentation: Attach any relevant documentation supporting your request. This could include a business license or certificate of incorporation under the business page name, demonstrating your authority over the business.

  • Facebook Account Information: Provide the Facebook account or email address associated with the Facebook account that you wish to have added as the new Page administrator.

  • Statement of Truth and Accuracy: Include a statement affirming the truth and accuracy of the information you have provided. For example, "I declare under penalty of perjury that the information provided is true and accurate." Customize the statement accordingly, ensuring its authenticity.

By preparing these items and submitting them to Facebook, you can initiate the process of reclaiming ownership of your Facebook Page.

How to reclaim your Facebook page

To reclaim a Facebook Page if an admin account was hacked

Step 1: Report the hacked account to Facebook

If your personal Facebook account or another Page admin's account was hacked, the hacker may have also taken control of your business or organization's official Page. The owner of the hacked account should report the incident to regain access. For that go to this page.

Step 2: Visit the recovery form

Go to https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/1280439701975125 Ensure that you are signed in with the hacked account that needs to regain admin rights to the Page.

Step 3: Select the Page you want to reclaim

From the menu, choose the specific Page you wish to reclaim. The displayed Pages are the ones that your account previously had access to.

Note: If assigned a non-admin role on the Page (such as Moderator, Analyst, or Jobs Manager), the Page will not be listed in this menu. In such cases, you need to remove yourself from the current role. Go to Settings, then Page Roles, click Edit below your account, and select Remove.

Step 4: Submit the form

Click on the Send button to submit the recovery form. Facebook will receive your report and initiate the verification process. An agent from Facebook will contact you via email with further instructions for verification. Please be aware that the response time can vary, ranging from one day to several weeks.

  • Await Response: Wait for Facebook to investigate and respond to your report.

  • Verification: Cooperate with Facebook's verification process, if required.

  • Removal: Facebook removes the rogue administrator's access if deemed necessary.

  • Regain Control: Facebook restores your administrative access to the Page.

  • Secure: Implement additional security measures to prevent future unauthorized access.

Claiming an Unofficial Page on Facebook:

  • Visit the page you want to claim while logged into Facebook.

  • Look for the "Unofficial Page" tag to confirm it has no owner.

  • Click on the "Is this your business?" tag on the page.

  • Choose to merge the page with an existing page or verify it by phone or documents.

  • Follow the prompts and provide the necessary information.

  • Wait for Facebook to process and confirm your request.

  • Once confirmed, the page should be transferred to your ownership.

Recovering a Facebook Page without an Admin:

  • Log in to your Facebook profile on your desktop.

  • Go to the Help Center or visit https://www.facebook.com/help

  • Click on "Policies and Reporting" in the left tab.

  • Select "Intellectual property."

  • Click on the "fill in this form" link.

  • Choose the appropriate option for reporting as the owner.

  • Provide details to prove ownership and describe how you lost the page.

  • Include the page's URL and attach any supporting evidence.

  • Complete your personal information and electronic signature.

  • Click "Submit" to send the request.

  • Facebook will contact you via email for further confirmation and information.

  • Respond to their inquiries promptly and provide any additional details they request.

  • Facebook will review your case and assist you in regaining control of the page.

Recovering a page is more challenging than retrieving a personal account but not impossible. If your page was taken over by a hacker or rogue administrator, the best course of action is to report it to Facebook, claiming infringement of your property.

However, if you were removed by an admin, it's advisable to politely communicate with them first. Contacting Facebook might not be effective, especially if they can't verify your identity.

Given the widespread usage of Facebook, reclaiming access to your popular page is crucial for maintaining your business's visibility.
